The key to successful business social media marketing isn't easy unless you have a clear plan of action. Here are fourteen top tips to get you started and to use in all of your planning and posts to enhance its performance for your business.

Tip One: Always Be Yourself

You should be the person who is in charge of your social media campaign and that means you have to be authentic and true to yourself. Your customers are not stupid; they know when something seems fake or plastic, so don’t bother trying anything other than what you do best when it comes to your social media content.

Tip Two: Always Be Consistent

Your customers are going to be coming back for a steady stream of new content that is relevant and interesting, so you should have a schedule in place where you post consistently throughout the week (or more). It can get rather hectic if you only update your pages when it feels convenient for you, so a schedule will help to alleviate some of that stress.

Tip Three: Always Be Helpful and Informative

You should be providing your followers with interesting information on a regular basis, along with updates about what is going on in the world of your company - not just links to blog posts or other content off site. This is your social media campaign, so you need to treat it as a platform where you can share useful information.

Tip Four: Don’t Be Afraid To Share Good News

You have to be honest and upfront when posting on any of your social media platforms - after all, that means customers will trust what you have to say more. Be sure to share anything good that is happening in your life, and don’t feel guilty about it - the worst thing that can happen is someone unfollows you or even worse leaves a negative comment!

Tip Five: Always Use Images (And Emojis!)

I know this may seem like an obvious one, but you would be surprised how many people don’t take advantage of the power that images have in social media marketing. You should always post at least one to two photos per week - even if they are not super professional or high quality; it will help keep your followers coming back for more!

Tip Six: Always Follow The Trends

One of the best things about social media is that you can always be on top of current trends and think ahead. Do some research into what your customers are talking about, or even outside interests for your niche market (think sports teams, celebrities) just to see if there’s any content worth sharing with them.

Tip Seven: Always Be Genuine

You should always post content that is genuine and honest. That doesn’t mean you can never share something controversial or out of the ordinary, but your followers will know when it comes from a place in which you are not being true to yourself. They want to get an idea of who you really are, so be sure to share your passions and interests with them.

Tip Eight: It Is Okay To Have Fun

That may seem like a no-brainer, but you have to remember that there really is nothing better than having fun while working on something - especially if it’s doing what you love! Social media marketing can be challenging at times, but it shouldn’t be all work and no play. It is okay to take a break for a bit now and then - as long as you are still posting!

Tip Nine: Have A Backup Plan

You should never put all of your eggs in one basket when it comes to managing social media content; which means you should always have a backup plan in place. You never know when the unexpected is going to happen, so it’s important that you are ready for anything and everything!

Tip Ten: Learn To Say No

This may seem counter-intuitive, but one of your best assets as an influencer could also be your worst enemy. You don’t want to be so focused on your social media campaign that you are putting quality of life second. Sometimes it is best to say no and focus on more important things for a while, especially when you can find alternatives or delegate the task.

Tip Eleven: Always Be Aware Of The Competition

It is always good to be aware of what the competition is doing in their social media campaigns, but it doesn’t mean you have to copy them. You should be looking for ways that they are different and better than you - not trying to mimic or follow their every move!

Tip Twelve: Always Keep Your Social Media Articles Short

This tip may seem like common sense, but you would be surprised how many marketers still struggle with this. You should aim for 300 - 500 word articles that are going to get the point across quickly and efficiently, without losing your audience in a sea of information!

Tip Thirteen: Always Use The Right Tags

This is another tip that seems like common sense, but it is so important. When it comes to social media content, you should always use hashtags that are relevant and will help your article be seen by the people who want to see it! But don’t go crazy with them - a few high quality ones is all you need!

Tip Fourteen: Always Be Friendly

This isn’t just a tip for social media - this is something that should go without saying in every facet of business. You are there to provide help and support, not create competition or animosity between you and your customers! It’s important to have relationships with people who trust you as well as those who don’t know you yet.
